Hiking the Baden Powell trail

With only a week to go before heading off to China to trek The Great Wall with IBD Adventures, I figured it was time to get outside, and the hill program on the treadmill wasn’t cutting it anymore! On Sunday morning, Faye, Ali, Stephen, Rosie and I started out from Lynn Headwaters in North Vancouver and headed west. We had parked my car at Grouse Mountain so we only had to hike one way. The first part of the hike was a steep staircase, after 5 min I was experiencing some serious thigh burn and was having some concerns that I had signed up for more than I was ready for!

I was pretty happy when the staircase ended, and I was able to catch my breath and soak in the gorgeous scenery. For the first hour we came across, several mountain bikers and with their dogs trailing behind. I thought to myself, that would be a fun sport to take up! I love having the freedom to consider such things now! I also had to smile to myself because even though I had grown up minutes from this outdoor wonderland, this was the first time I was completing the trail from Lynn Valley to Grouse Mountain. In the past I had done some hiking, but never seemed to have enough courage to be away from the toilet for that long. I know what your thinking, yes, I was in the woods already and I should just pack TP and not worry about it, but as a young teenage girl I  wasn’t quite there. The entire hike took just under 3 hours, it felt great to be back in my old backyard and strong enough to tackle the trails…Great Wall here i come…

  1. It is amazing to know how far you have come in the past year. I hope you are very proud of yourself. I know that I am proud of you too. Have a wonderful time in China. I am a little bit jealous.

  2. Oh my, I’m so excited for you to do this at the Great Wall! This hike mimics my experience there, well you don’t have to walk that long if you don’t want to, but the stair burn definitely happened momentarily lol!!
    Have so much fun :),

  3. I just looked into IBD Adventures (so cool!) and saw the itinerary for this trip– it is going to be amazing and well-worth the hard work…what an experience!!!
